About this Space

1284 East 12th, Vancouver – Coast Salish Territories

This space itself exists to give strength to “self-organized” struggles against exploitation and domination.

Self-organization means organizing ourselves to determine the conditions of our own lives, with others and as individuals, without asking, pressuring, or relying on any higher power to do it for us.

We are not looking to carve out a space within society and then say, “there it’s settled, we’ve got our bit,” because there is no escape from exploitation and degradation without a complete overturning of this order. We want to discuss ideas and act in ways that confront our exploitation and push towards the experience of freedom.

For a classless and stateless humanity!

We were shut down by the city in Spring 2011. Apparently there was no possible zoning or permit that would allow a social space to exist in this building. There was never a permit for 12thand clark and finally they threatened our landlord and an individual with 10,000 dollars a day in fines and so the doors were closed. We’ve heard a new space might exist in Blood Alley, Vancouver.
